- Plan, execute, and finalize an ISO/IEC 42001 compliance audit, adhering to ISO/IEC 17021-1 requirements, ISO 19011 guidelines, and established auditing best practices
- Oversee an ISO/IEC 42001 audit program

Examination
The “PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor” exam fulfills the criteria set by the PECB Examination and Certification Program (ECP). It encompasses the following competency areas:
Domain 1: Fundamental principles and concepts of an AI management system
Domain 2: Requirements for an AI management system
Domain 3: Core audit concepts and principles
Domain 4: Preparation of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 5: Execution of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 6: Closure of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit
Domain 7: Management of an ISO/IEC 42001 audit program

Certification
PECB ISO/IEC 42001 Certification Path and Requirements
Following a successful exam result, candidates may apply for one of four professional credentials based on their level of experience. All credentials require passing the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or an approved equivalent) and signing the PECB Code of Ethics.
1. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Provisional Auditor
Best suited for new entrants to the field who have acquired theoretical knowledge but lack practical auditing or industry experience.

2. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Auditor
Designed for professionals possessing foundational experience in AI management and auditing.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Two years in total, including at least one year of specific work experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum of 200 hours of eligible audit activities

3. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor
The standard credential for seasoned professionals qualified to plan, lead, and manage AI management system audit teams.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Five years in total, including at least two years of specific work experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum of 300 hours of eligible audit activities

4. Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Senior Lead Auditor
The highest tier for expert practitioners with extensive, long-term leadership experience in auditing AI frameworks.

Exam Requirement: Pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor Exam (or equivalent)

Professional Experience: Ten years in total, including at least seven years of specific work experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Management System Audit Experience: A minimum of 1,000 hours of eligible audit activities

Additional Requirement: Sign the PECB Code of Ethics
Note on Eligible Audit Activities: To be recognized by PECB, audit hours must adhere to best practices and should comprise activities such as audit planning, managing an audit program, drafting audit or nonconformity reports, conducting on-site audits, and leading an audit team.
General
- The cost of certification and examination is included in the training course fee.
- Participants will receive comprehensive course materials featuring over 450 pages of explanatory content, case studies, best practices, exercises, and quizzes.
- A completion certificate worth 31 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) credits will be issued to all participants who attend the training.
- If a candidate fails the examination, they are eligible to retake it at no additional cost within 12 months of their initial attempt.
